What do the different colored lights on my car dashboard mean?

If you've ever had the misfortune to get behind the wheel and noticed one or several different colored lights illuminated on your car dashboard, don't panic. Each of those lights may mean something different and understanding the implications can save you time, money and stress.

The most common warning lights are Red, Orange, Green, Blue and Yellow. Each of these has a specific purpose that can quickly alert you to a potential problem before it becomes more serious.

Red Lights: Red dashboard lights typically indicate an urgent safety issue that requires immediate attention. Depending on the manufacturer some red lights may indicate problems with airbag deployment sensors, brake system issues or even engine trouble that should be addressing right away by a qualified technician.

Orange Lights: An orange light usually indicates a less critical warning related to the vehicle's performance such as low fuel levels or engine temperature issues. This type of light may also signal the need for engine maintenance such as oil changes or spark plug replacements in order to keep performance at optimum levels.

Green Lights: Green dashboard lights typically signal non-critical conditions such as occasional indicators like turn signals, safety belt reminders and seat-belt usage reminders which could be easily remedied by driver actions in order to avoid potential fines due to disregard for local laws.

Blue Lights: Blue dashboard lights usually serve as information reminders such as headlights left on warnings, doors open warnings and etc.. Generally speaking these warning lights require simply refocusing our attention on details otherwise easily forgotten during every day activities related to driving such as making sure doors are locked after entering/exiting or activating security locks when parking our vehicles overnight.

Yellow Lights: Depending on the vehicle brand yellow dashboard lights may serve slightly different purposes but generally indicate either non-urgent warnings (such as an issue with transmission temperature levels) or if the light is blinking it goes back to an urgent warning similar to red light telltale indications requiring immediate attention from qualified technicians for further investigation and repair solutions if necessary.
